The first reason is we use industrial grade equipment. Our equipment will rip through the foil or plastic dryer vent. Our tools are designed for ridged or semi ridged dryer vents only.
The second reason is foil or plastic dryer vent are against code. The Mechanical and Residential code books state dryer vents should be ridged or semi ridged only. There are many reasons for that. The main reasons are the diameter of the dryer vents needs to be maintained at 4inches. The accordion style design of the foil or plastic dryer vent ducts reduced the diameter to 3.25 inches in some areas. This restricts the airflow which can cause the dryer to overheat. Overheated dryers lead to dryer fires. Usually the lint inside the dryer ignites. The dryer engine motor, wiring inside the dryer and lint should not mix. Unfortunately a lot of lint gets passed the lint tarp and get inside the dryer. It also gets in the dryer vents as well.
They also sag in spots causing lint to build up. When lint build up it causes the dryer to overheat. Overheated dryers lead to dryer fires. Usually the lint inside the dryer ignites.
